icona gives back: The Ugly Christmas Sweater Dash

icona Properties was the official community partner of The Ugly Christmas Sweater Dash held at Spirit Park on Ravenswood Drive in Anmore. More than [250] participants braved the elements and came together for companionship, outdoor recreation and good fun.

This year marked the return of the event after a one-year hiatus due to the pandemic, and the mood was celebratory as people showed off their tackiest, itchiest, ugliest holiday outfits. After participating in a 5km untimed walk / run, everyone had a chance to warm up by the fire and refuel with some hot chocolate and cookies. Trophies were awarded for the Ugliest Sweater, Best Group Costume, Ugliest Kids Sweater, Ugliest Dog Sweater and more.

“We extend our heartfelt gratitude to Icona Properties for their invaluable support as our official Community Partner for The Ugly Christmas Sweater Dash. Their commitment to fostering a sense of togetherness aligns perfectly with our mission, and we are incredibly grateful for their contribution in expanding the event and spreading joy throughout Anmore.”

The Ugly Christmas Sweater Dash was founded 20 years ago by two Metro Vancouver university students, one of whom — Jordan Birch — is an Anmore resident. The event has since evolved into one of the region’s most enduring and iconic fundraisers. This year’s dash raised $2,000 for charity, with proceeds donated to  ACT 2 Child and Family Services. Act 2 is a not-for-profit registered charity that has helped transform the lives of those who have experienced the effects of violence, sexual abuse, trauma in their lives. The charity works with children, youth and adults to help them rebuild their lives through counselling, education, housing and support.

As placemakers, icona believes in creating communities that keep people connected. We are proud to have played a small role in this weekend’s event and we look forward to being part of future events that bring people together and benefit the whole community.
